What a GREAT Day!

At 11:02 a.m. this morning, President Barack Obama's entourage of marine helicopters (there were six of them) flew over my house on his way over to Arcadia to to dedicate a new solar energy facility. You can read about the visit here:

When I heard the copters coming I darted out on my lanai and saluted him. I even had a few tears streaming down my cheeks as he went by me - unfortunately about 500 feet up. Its funny how when I lived in Washington DC and heard Helicopter 1 flying around all the time I thought nothing of it...just another day in Washington. However today it was a big freaking thing hearing the same helicopter. Maybe now the difference is the guy sitting in there getting a ride.

Contrast that to June 22, 2001 when I was walking back from a meeting down town and I passed the South Lawn of the White House enroute to Main Interior to catch a shuttle bus back to our office.

As I passed the southwest corner of the White House, over by the Old Executive Office Building, I saw the gates open and lights started to flash. Out came an obvious Secret Service black suburban with blue lights flashing. Behind it came another SS suburban and behind it was the decoy limousine. The fourth vehicle in line was Dubya Bush's limousine.

I'm standing 30 feet from him as his limo darted out of the White House exit. As it did I looked in and there was old George Dubya looking back at me. Instinctively my right arm darted out and my right hand formed into a ball except for the middle finger of my hand that soon found itself fully extended - and pointed at Bush's face.

He saw me, I saw him, I didn't hurl and the Secret Service took my picture. Later that day I emailed Bush and asked him to credit me with the image in the picture. I never heard back from Dubya on that one.

That salute of Bush was necessary. Today's salute of a real leader was satisfying.

Even more satisfying was about two hours later when I was at the home of my Barack-hating Republican sister. As I was leaving her house Barack's entourage of helicopters flew over on its way back to Sarasota International Airport. I couldn't help but laugh at the irony of the greatest President since Jimmy Carter flying over the house of a Republican who thinks he's even lower on the totem pole than Rush Limbaugh. Sweet justice I would say.

State Budgets Get Adrenaline Shot from "Cash for Clunkers"

WASHINGTON – Struggling states and towns got a dose of badly needed money this summer from a Cash for Clunkers program that poured hundreds of millions of dollars of tax revenue into their budgets.

Now, like the auto industry, recession-ravaged governments are seeing revenue fall off as car buyers take a breather from the frenzied sales of July and August. That means less money for schools, roads, public safety and other projects that get much of their funding from sales tax collections.

I wonder how the Reichwing will spin this story? They probably won't touch it at all. They can't be seen finding too many good things about Barack's Administration all the time.

This is sort of reminiscent of how North Dakota school districts stayed open because the Fish and Wildlife Service came through each year with its Refuge Revenue Sharing payments to the counties for all of that land we "took off the tax rolls". One year Cavalier County ND schools stayed open for the last 2 months of the year because the Service paid for the lands we owned in the county. Had we not the school system would have shut down 2 months early that year. It was something we did every year because the law requires it.

And of course all of North Dakota applauded the Service for giving this shot in the arm to local school districts. Just like the Reichwing will be doing the same for Cash for Clunkers. NOT!

Certainly from our standpoint, this gives us a sense of momentum -- when the United States has accolades tossed its way, rather than shoes.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL). Among those who attended the event was real estate CEO Robert Lowry, who is vying to replace Wasserman Schultz in 2010:

I would love NOTHING better than to see Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, or on the Rachel Maddow Show or both sitting there with a big smile on her face as this asshole's testicles hang bloodied from her teeth.

For a political party that calls itself "the party of God" (as Tom DeLay said at the 2000 convention in Philadelphia, or the "pro-life" party, or the party of compassionate conservatism, these repulsive swine certainly don't know a thing about how to live by what they preach for others to do.

The one-liner from the committee - it goes to Obama "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

And just think. Last weekend George Dumbya Bush won a pie-eating contest.

Isn't it amazing how Chimpy McFlightsuit huffed and puffed and strutted around saying “bring em on” and all he got was the wrath of the world against him and the United States. Predictable Pro-Business Review of "Captialism" in Sarasota Herald Tribune

This morning the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the local fish wrap breezily looked upon as the local "newspaper" printed a highly biased and uninformed review of Michael Moore's new movie "Capitalism: A Love Story". It was obvious to me after reading the review that its author did not see the same movie I watched. In fact, I have watched the movie three times in the first two days of it being shown locally. I might go back tomorrow for the fourth viewing.

In response to that extremely biased pro-business, corporate-america-can-do-no-wrong review, I penned a letter to the editor of the Herald-Tribune. It is reprinted in its entirety below. My guess, given the heavily Repignofascist slant of the news in the Sarasota paper and the high density of Repignofascists living in Sarasota County, they will not print the letter. And that is fine - demonstrating additional bias on the paper's part. Regardless you get to read the letter here.

Dear Editor, Sarasota Herald Tribune

The Herald-Tribune's supercilious review of the movie Capitalism: A Love Story suggests that either your reviewer did not see the same movie I saw. Or, more likely, your newspaper is an organ for corporate America.

This latest production by Michael Moore is quite likely his finest work yet. Who among us other than the coldest of cold hearted people wouldn't become upset watching a family from Illinois being evicted from their home? Who among us other than the coldest of the cold hearted wouldn't become upset watching a family of four in Miami "living" daily in an abandoned truck body because their home had been foreclosed?

More importantly who among wouldn't doesn't become frustrated when the CEO's of the banks that were bailed out in the Bush Administration are each making hundreds of millions of dollars in salaries while the pain and despair in described above is meted out by the same banks?

Capitalism: A Love Story is not a manifesto for bringing down the corporate structure in America. What it is, is a reasoned, fact-filled (and documented) wake up call about how democracy in the United States is being supplanted by the richest 1 percent of Americans solely for the benefit of the richest 1 percent of Americans. There is nothing fair about what is happening to America and Americans and Michael Moore brilliantly displays that unfairness.

Rather than cast aspersions on the movie based on your paper's biased review, you should be encouraging people to find out why the reviewer felt the way she did. To borrow from the movie review headline, people will only have themselves to blame if they heed your biased review.

Now, perhaps in response to the hate those alleged humans spew daily, there is a new poll out on Facebook titled "Should Obama Be Killed?"

Remember just a few short years ago when people would show up at George Bush rallies wearing anti-Bush t shirts and they would be arrested and hauled away? Now we have entire political movements and the Fox "News"Channel advocating the overthrow of the government and not one of these bastards languishes in jail. On top of that we have idiots like the person who created this poll asking people if the President should be shot - and for what? For wanting everyone in the country to have health care?

Just a minute ago I called the US Secret Service office in Tampa (813-228-2636) and spoke to the duty officer there. I identified myself as a retired Federal employee and asked if the SS was aware of this poll advocating the murder of the President. The Secret Service agent told me they were well aware of the poll and its underpinnings. I begged him not only as a retired Federal employee but also as a US citizen to track down the scum posting this poll and arrest them and have them prosecuted. The SS agent seemed as disgusted as I am and assured me they are on the issue. I hope they find this creep and the local US Attorney prosecutes him/her to the fullest extent possible.

Its one thing to have a disagreement with those in power. That is what democracy (majority rule) is all about. It is quite another to foment so much hatred that the crazies in society are out there wanting to kill the President of the United States. What is most unfortunate is that there are enough sick bastards out there listening to Rush and Glenn Beck and Michael Savage that one of them is going to snap and do it. And then when the deed is done they will all blame Bill Clinton.

Who would have ever thought that wanting to ensure that every American has access to quality health care, and not have to worry about breaking the bank to do it, would cause people to go off the fucking deep end.

There is a growing movement to boycott South Carolina and especially its tourism industry after Congressman Joe Wilson (R for Racist - SC) and his despicable behavior last week blurting out "You Lie" to the President from inside the walls of the US Congress.

I recently went to the South Carolina tourism website and used their contact portal to tell them of my decision not to travel to South Carolina. You might want to take a minute to send them a similar message. Mine is printed below:

Dear South Carolina

I was quite excited about my plans to spend the last week of September and the first week of October in coastal South Carolina on a bird watching trip. That excitement died last Wednesday when Congressman Joe Wilson (R for Racist - SC) blurted out the disrespectful words "You Lie" to the President of the United States while Wilson was seated in the US Capitol.

If Congressman Wilson is a true representative of South Carolina then I want nothing to do with your state and I certainly want nothing to do with contributing to your economy. Its bad enough that you have a governor who violates state law to travel to Argentina to rendezvous with his concubine. Now you have a Congressman who is also a member of the military behaving like a 7th grader.

One year ago today almost anyone in the United States who spoke ill of the President was immediately branded by conservatives as a "traitor" or "treasonous" or a "terrorist sympathizer."

Today, however, we have a member of Congress from South Carolina who is also in the military reserve calling the President a liar from the House of Representatives. We have a Congresswoman from Minnesota who repeats the lie perpetrated by the South Carolinian and nothing is said of her comments.

This morning we had hate-speech aficianado Neal Boortz compare the President of the United States to a child molester. This past weekend we had 60,000 some people in Washington DC carrying placards claiming that our President is a "socialist", a "muslim" and he wants to kill your grandmother with his health care reform.

We in Sarasota are represented in Congress by Vern Buchannan, a Republican who was one of those a year ago clamoring to the microphone to denounce anyone who had the temerity to say anything bad about George Bush - a man who needed to be called out.
Where is Vern Buchannan's voice today?

Just like with Congressman Buchannan, where is the outrage from the radical right wing now that people are speaking out against the President? Could the real issue be that the Conservative movement is really afraid of a black man with a degree from Harvard?

Where is your outrage now Congressman Buchannan? Bought and paid for by the health care industry, perhaps?

Ever since Glenn Beck took to the Fox television airwaves recently to offer a bizarre reading of the art commissioned 70 years ago for New York's Rockefeller Center, I've been puzzled by the graphic design element of his 9-12 Project. The logo (pictured) for his affiliated groups' rally in Washington, D.C., this weekend derives from century-old communist, socialist and other left-wing designs.

Thursday's annual Census Bureau report on income, poverty and access to health care-the Bureau's principal report card on the well-being of average Americans-closes the books on the economic record of George W. Bush.

It's not a record many Republicans are likely to point to with pride.

On every major measurement, the Census Bureau report shows that the country lost ground during Bush's two terms. While Bush was in office, the median household income declined, poverty increased, childhood poverty increased even more, and the number of Americans without health insurance spiked. By contrast, the country's condition improved on each of those measures during Bill Clinton's two terms, often substantially.

Within hours of the report's release Republican Party operatives will be on Faux "News" denouncing the Census Report as being a partisan attack. By Wednesday Glenn Beck will be railing on the report as another example of the socialist take over of the United States. By this weekend the sheeple who are part of the tea bag "movement" will be demonstrating in the streets. And by next Monday not one Democrat will come out and stridently defend the report and its findings. By next Tuesday it will all be forgotten.

However, in 2003, Wilson voted to provide federal funds for illegal immigrants’ health care. The vote came on the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, which contained Sec. 1011 authorizing $250,000 annually between 2003 and 2008 for government reimbursements to hospitals who provide treatment for uninsured illegal immigrants. The program has been extended through 2009 and there is currently a bipartisan bill in Congress to make it permanent.

State police charged a former GOP lawmaker on Friday with violating a protective order after his former girlfriend was found shot to death in downtown Lexington.

Steve Nunn, who was being treated at The Medical Center of Bowling Green for undisclosed injuries, has not been charged with the slaying, said Lt. David Jude, a spokesman for the Kentucky State Police in Frankfort. He was listed in stable condition.

Hours after his former fiancee was found shot to death in Lexington, former gubernatorial candidate Steve Nunn slit his wrists in a Hart County cemetery, according to Kentucky State Police.

Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton said Nunn cut his wrists outside Cosby United Methodist Church near the Barren County-Hart County line on LeGrande Highway. Nunn's parents, former Gov. Louie B. Nunn and former first lady Beula Cornelius Nunn, are buried at the church's cemetery.

Nunn placed mementos on his parents' graves, moved several feet away, then cut his wrists, Eaton said.

Once again, a pro-life compassionately conservative christian dripping with family values commits a heinous crime. I will admit that usually the Repignicans just get caught in bathrooms hitting on cops in the next stall, or they do a little wick dipping with Louisiana prostitutes. Those are the norm. Still occasionally one of these pathetic wretches will pull off a big crime.

Just like Steve Nunn. Apparently Stevie was jilted by his fiancee and he decided to off her. Obviously this wasn't the first instance where Steveie lost his cool because the fiancee had an order of protection on him.

Its very sad that his girlfriend had to die. At the same time its very unfortunate that Nunn wasn't successful in his wrist slashing. This means hundreds of thousands of dollars will be eaten up by the corrections system in Kentucky keeping him alive until he croaks in jail.

The silver lining is that this also means there is one less Republican on the streets and one less at the polls in November 2010.

After watching Joe Wilson (R for Racist - SC) diss you in front of the entire nation it dawned on me that there is one aspect of "Change" that you have not yet considered and I encourage you to do so.

That change is to change party affiliation.

Become a Republican Barack. Think of the advantages you would get:

1. All of your enemies in the House (Boner, Cantor, Wilson to name a few) would suddenly be on your side and any legislation you wanted passed would move through the House in a heart beat.

2. All of your enemies in the Senate (Mitchell, Inhofe, Coburn, Cornyn) would suddenly be on your side and any legislation you wanted passed would move through the Senate in a heart beat.

3. Your efforts to reform health care, including the inclusion of a public option, would suddenly become good public policy, and you would see the Republican leadership crawling all over itself to take credit for this good information.

4. After recovering from multiple heart attacks, Rush Limbaugh would become your greatest cheerleader. Anything you wanted, Rush could rally support for you.

5. Glenn Beck would suddenly become your strongest supporter for czar's in Washington.

6. Sean Hannity would be a strong supporter of your every move.

7. You would have an entire news channel (Faux "News" Channel) devoted to providing 24/7 coverage of everything you did and they would give you 24/7 support for all of your proposals.

8. Cap and Trade would sail through and be approved.

9. All your other plans for green infrastructure and green economies would be rubber stamped.

10. Mountain top mining would be opposed.

11. You would have an instant 5-4 majority on the Supreme Court.

12. Most importantly you would have the complete and undivided support of the Democrats in the Congress. They have not seen one thing a Republican President has wanted to do since 2001 that they have not given their full undivided support to. You could instantly count on all legislation you wanted passed to be voted on 435-0 in the House, and 99-0 in the Senate.

Even more importantly you would have all the Republican money pouring in to help you get re-elected in 2012.

This is a no-brainer Barack. I think you should address the nation this evening and inform the country of your change in party affiliation. There will be a health care reform package on your desk ready to sign in less than 24 hours.

When I was a child I was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Wisconsin. There in confirmation classes we were taught that god was a loving god. We learned that jesus worked tirelessly to heal the sick and make life easier and maybe better for the less fortunate. Jesus was the guy who came up with the concept of turning the other cheek and loving your brother.

Remember all of those things from when you were in Seminary, Steve?

As I have watched the Republican Party (of which you are obviously a card-carrying member) turn itself into a group of hate mongers in recent years I have often wondered where the hate came from. You certainly spew it and you are supposed to be a man of god.

With luck some nutcase in your church isn't going to take you seriously and do some harm to President Obama. Funny how you didn't have this sort of hatred for George Bush - and he lied the nation into a war, killed 4400 American kids for those lies, and bankrupted the country doing it. If ever there was a case for spewing hatred, Steve, it was George Dubya.

Still Steve, I think you need to reassess where your priorities are. Churches used to be places of refuge where worried people went for consoling. They were never to be places for partisan hatred to be spewed.

Is the problem that Barack is black, Steve?? Is that the issue?? If so just remember that his mom was white so why not try to like the white half more than you hate the black half. Think that would work, Steve?

The Orlando Weekly's Bloggytown is reporting today that a rather generic letter, sent to school principals across the United States by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, has caused one local GOP official to completely lose his mind. Duncan's letter previewed a national address that President Barack Obama planned to give on "the importance of education." Somehow, Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer managed to take away that this meant "taxpayer dollars" would be used to "indoctrinate America's children to his socialist agenda." O-kay!

Just a week ago the sun-adled brain of Jim Greer, Chairman of the Repignican Party in Florida was going ballistic about President Obama's speech to school kids.

Today, however, after actually reading the speech, Greer has changed his mind.

ABC News' Steven Portnoy reports: The Florida Republican party chairman who last week accused the president of trying to “indoctrinate America’s children to his socialist agenda” now says he’ll let his children watch what he calls a “good speech,” one the president “should give.”

“It’s a good speech,” Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer said Monday. “It encourages kids to stay in school and the importance of education and I think that’s what a president should do when they’re gonna talk to students across the country.”

Wing nut extraordinaire Rick Perry the Governor of Texas who wants his state to leave the United States (except when he needs federal money for bailouts, disaster relief, freeway construction, weather forecasting, air traffic control at DFW, IAH and other airports, and a whole host of other Federal programs) said that the speech was "disturbing". What on earth about a speech encouraging kids to stay in school and work hard and take responsibility is disturbing? I guess in Rick-world having to listen to non-Republican talking points for 20 minutes is disturbing.

Yet Laura Bush, a member of the Bush Crime Family who never had to pay any price for committing manslaughter in Texas, came out praising the speech.

Its curious that once Laura took the time to stretch out her painted on smile she began sounding like she had a few wits about her. My guess is she's the only one in the Bush household in the racially segregated rich community in suburban Dallas who has any wits about her. At least Laura didn't start an illegal war based on lies about non-existent weapons of mass destruction. I'll give her that.

The screaming wing nuts have so thoroughly captured the stage in the United States that there is no longer a place or need for reasoned discourse about anything. Just get your daily dose of invective from Rush Limbaugh, and then watch the breathlessly stupid talking heads on Faux "News" and for the wingers that is all they need. The other night at a baseball game in Port Charlotte we were asked to stand, remove our hats, and sing along as some people performed the song "God Bless America." I remained seated, kept my baseball cap on and twiddled my thumbs while this ridiculousness proceeded. I refuse to ask an invisible man living in the sky to "bless" the United States. If there is a real invisible man living in the sky he should be blessing everyone with no exceptions. Memories of the 1997 Gubernatorial Race in Virginia

Not long after moving to Virginia in late 1994 I began living with a woman in Franconia, a neighborhood in the suburbs of Washington DC. In early 1995 her sister gave her a purebred Rottweiler named Rauxi.

Rauxi was a real trip and probably the funniest dog I have ever known. For excitement and because I thought the concept was hilarious I started training Rauxi in my own image and did so by teaching her to bare her teeth and growl when I said the word "Republican." It was hilarious to see. Eventually friends would come over and say "get her to do it Craig." All I had to do was say "Rauxi, Republican" and the dogs lips would slide back, exposing her teeth, and a guttural growl emanated from her throat. Despite being 105 pounds and a Rottweiler, Rauxi was an absolute wimp. Just scratch her stomach and she was your friend for life.

I also trained Rauxi that gray squirrels were Republicans. When one would show up in the backyard I would dash to the back door with Rauxi chomping at the bit next to me. I'd open the door and yell "Rauxi, Republican, get 'em" and she would bound across the deck and into the backyard chasing the tree rats but never catching one.

During the 1997 gubernatorial race, at about this time of year, we received a knock on the door on a Saturday afternoon. Wearing a t-shirt that read "Friends Don't Let Friends Vote Republican" I walked to the front door to answer the knock. Rauxi is asleep in the kitchen out of sight of the front door.

I opened the door and there stood Linda Gilmore, wife of gubernatorial candidate Jim Gilmore (who, unfortunately, won the election). Seeing her I politely greeted her and then listened to her spiel.

She began by saying "Hi I'm Linda Gilmore. My husband Jim is running for Governor and we'd like y'all's vote."

Knowing the answer ahead of time I asked "So what political affiliation are you?"

Linda said in her perfect little suthen accent," why, we're Republicans."

Rauxi, asleep and out of sight of Mrs Gilmore hears the "R" word and her ears perk up. Seeing a perfect chance for some re-education I yelled out "Rauxi, Republican, get 'em."

The next thing Mrs Gilmore sees is 105 pounds Rottweiler racing toward her. She thinks she is about to be attacked and eaten by a dog because of her political beliefs. Rauxi thinks there is a squirrel in the front yard she can chase.

Sensing what is about to happen to her Mrs. Gilmore screamed, threw the papers and pamphlets in her arms into the air, turned, and raced across the front yard with a bound best described as like a gazelle.

I tackled Rauxi before she could get to the door and fell to the floor with her in my arms. Rauxi's legs kept moving like she was running. Mrs. Gilmore was still running.

I held onto Rauxi until I could stop laughing and Mrs. Gilmore was nowhere in sight.

We never had another Republican show up at the door for the rest of that campaign.

The Virginia governor's race ignited Monday over Republican Robert F. McDonnell's 20-year-old graduate thesis: Democrats assailed him in e-mail blasts and interviews for what he wrote about working women, homosexuals and "fornicators," and McDonnell tried to explain his views to crucial moderate and female voters.

I'm doing back flips and cartwheels this morning after reading this story from my former home state of Virginia!

It would be counter intuitive to ask the question, "can you believe this guy?" because he's a hate-filled Republican. Of course you can believe him and what he said in his thesis. For one he was awarded his degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach. For those not familiar with Virginia geography, Regent is the "college" run by racist hate monger Pat Robertson.

In the thesis, "The Republican Party's Vision for the Family: The Compelling Issue of The Decade," McDonnell described working women as "detrimental" to the traditional family. He criticized a U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing contraception for unmarried couples and decried the "purging" of religion from schools. He advocated character education programs in public schools to teach "traditional Judeo-Christian values," and he criticized federal tax credits for child care expenditures because they encouraged women to enter the workforce

The fact that McDonnell said this in his thesis shows that he wanted to mollify his keepers at Regent for one thing and probably had his sights set on a high ranking position in the Republican Party some day in the future.

I remain stupefied by the arrogance of this group of jackals called Republicans. They espouse "family values" while demonstrating that they have none. They call themselves "pro-life" while supporting war. They bitch about public funding for issues but are the first in line to swill at the public trough. And most importantly they talk about being "christian" while openly behaving 180 degrees to the opposite of what "christ" preached and how he lived.

Its not surprising that I hope McDonnell gets his righteous ass whipped in the election this fall. Certainly there are myopic creeps in Tidewater Virginia, and out near Danville, and no doubt out in the southwest who will support this creep. Luckily heavily liberal northern Virginia surrounding Washington DC has more available votes than the rest of them combined.

Still it will be enjoyable watching this idiot twist in the wind for the rest of the campaign. Somehow I have a feeling he will find a way to blame Bill Clinton for what he wrote in his thesis 20 years ago.

My only regret is that I no longer live in Virginia and therefore can't campaign against this asshole.

Pat Robertson Unfortunately Recovering from Heart Surgery

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson underwent 10 hours of surgery to repair a heart disorder and is back in Virginia recovering, a spokesman said Monday.

"He's really doing well, recovering very quickly," spokesman Chris Roslan said of the 79-year-old founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network. "He's doing great."

This story about Pat Robertson presents sort of a conundrum. First of all it assumes this hateful bastard has a heart and secondly it assumes someone other than Pat cares that the hateful son of a bitch had to endure surgery.

Pat Robertson, in case you have forgotten, is the hateful "christian" who several years ago prayed for a nuclear explosion to take out the State Department building in Washington DC. The only reason this asshole wasn't arrested is because he made his terroristic threat during the Bush Administration when anyone allegedly associated with "god" could get away with murder.

Personally I hope that if there is a god and there is this fantasy "judgement day" that all christians believe in, that the first person sent to the imaginary "hell" is Pat Robertson. The Real Death Panels Among Us

Critics fret that health care reform would undermine American family values, not least by convening somber death panels to wheel away Grandma as if she were Old Yeller.

Once again the silver tongue of Nicholas Kristof is transferred to his fingers and here he has penned a brilliant analysis of the current health care debate. His words are especially poignant when it comes to the ridiculous argument about non-existent death panels that the Party of Family Values is foisting on the populace to scare everyone (remember, after 9/11, the Repignicans learned that the best way to control thought is through scare tactics and they have not let go of that technique).

Stories abound like the examples that Kristof presents in this article yet they rarely make it into the mainstream. Instead we are bombarded with lies by people such as Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley who despite evidence in front of him says with a straight face that "Obama" wants death panels.

The truly unfortunate thing about this piece by Nick Kristoff is that it will not be read by the people who should be reading it. No way is an undereducated southern redneck with a confederate flag in his truck window and his radio tuned to the station that Rush comes on going to benefit from Kristof's words. No way will the clients huddled around the television at the Hampton Inn in Daytona Beach listening to the venom spewed by Faux "News" Channel going to hear a word about this piece. You can bet that Michele Malkin and other purveyors of hate are not going to alert their sheeple that an opposing view point has been published in the New York Times today.

And worst of all, with very few exceptions, the Democratic majority in the House and the Senate won't say a thing either because they are mortified that they may blurt out the truth and upset the 30 percent who would never vote for them anyway.

Its a vicious cycle and most of us seem to be in the spin cycle. I am not sure how to fix this mess other than to keep hoping that reason will finally prevail. Of course all a steer can do is hope as well.

Secret Service Interviewed Pastor Who Prays For Obama's Death

CNN has picked up our story from yesterday on Steven Anderson, the Arizona pastor who prayed for Barack Obama's death the day before one of his parishioners, who attended the sermon, brought an AR-15 rifle to an Obama event.

Remember during the race for Al Gore's Presidency in 2000 when Geroge Dumbya Bush portrayed himself as a compassionate conservative? Remember all that tripe? Once he was anointed President George Dumbya established in the White House an office of "Faith-Based" Initiatives. Remember how "god" was supposed to seep into our lives through the good things done by all of these "Christians?" Remember all that bullshit?

This story highlights the hypocrisy of "Christians" in America. The "Christ" I studied when I was in Lutheran confirmation classes was a quiet, unassuming person who worked to take care of the sick and poor and those less fortunate. "Christ" was not a hate-mongering ideologue like the "minister" in this story. "Christ" would never EVER have prayed for some one's death and especially the leader of a nation.

Yet these assholes keep parading themselves around so piously like they are better than everyone else and they do so under the guise of "god" and "Christ" and being a "christian."

I gave up organized religion in the 12th grade when I watched the hypocrisy of alleged "Christians" coming to a rural Lutheran church in Barron County Wisconsin. There people would show up hungover on Sunday morning. They would sleep through the sermon, throw $10 in the collection plate and consider themselves "saved" for another week. Then, upon exiting the church they would set out to be heathens for 6.5 days until the next Sunday morning when they returned, piously, to the church.

Religion and religious leaders were bullshit in 1968 and they remain so today. When an alleged minister of a "christian" church openly prays for the death of the President you know that there is no compassion or Christianity left in religion.

For this minister I hope that a pack of Rottweilers home in on your scrotum and rip it to shreds. For the followers of his church I hope you are all damned to the "hell" that Christians believe in. For the Secret Service I hope you arrest this son of a bitch before he can spew one more hate-filled word.

Your 19 ethics violations in Alaska are being investigated at the behest of the Republican-controlled legislature in Alaska. Last time I checked you were a Republican. Given how the Republicans in the US House and Senate went overboard trying to protect George Dumbya Bush, don't you find it a tad interesting that your party wants to investigate you? There seems to be a limit to just how much horse hockey even a Republican can stomach.

And now you are accused of violating the provisions of your Political Action Committee. This has earned you the extra scrutiny of the Federal government. Does this send any sort of hint your direction? Could it possibly be that you are not only corrupt to the core but also terminally stupid?

The Latest Republican Scare Tactic

Yesterday, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele appeared on NPR and quickly got into a testy back-and-forth with interviewer Steve Inskeep over the Republican Party’s tactics in the health care debate.

Towards the end of the interview, Inskeep asked how the GOP plans to explain the complicated health care issue to the American people in a way that “doesn’t just kind of scare people with soundbites.” In response, Steele angrily replied,”No one’s trying to scare people with soundbites. I have not done that, and I don’t know any leaders in the House and the Senate that have done that.”

The problem with Steele’s statement is that it simply isn’t true. The Columbian reports today that Raymond Denny, a 64-year old man from La Center, Washington, received a thirteen-question survey in the mail from the RNC, and that one of the questions implied that the health care reform bills before Congress would purposely discriminate against people who affiliated with the Republican Party.

Now isn't this special

The Republicans, in their rush to scare everyone out of their wits, have stooped to a new low.

Imagine their foolishness in sending out a "survey" in which they ask people if they are concerned about a provision in the health care bill that would deny health care to Republicans. Can you even possibly fathom this? How utterly stupid are these bastards?

Rather than have a reasoned debate about the merits of the legislation the Republicans resort to the same level of obfuscation that Rush Limbaugh and Faux "News" spew out daily. How unoriginal of them. Of course the people who will believe this tripe will believe it because they are too ignorant or in-bred or both to know how to seek out the truth. The lies and deceptions on Faux and Rush will continue unabated.

The AP reports that Republicans who opposed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, commonly referred to as the stimulus, are nonetheless vigorously pursuing money from the program. Many GOP members, like Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), are still slamming the stimulus as waste and a failure, yet at the same time are making internal appeals for more funds. Guthrie, attacked the Recovery Act for its “staggering” costs just days before he urged Defense Secretary Robert Gates to consider using stimulus money to renovate a military hospital in his congressional district.

These despicable bastards are so predictable. Not ONE Repignican supported the economic stimulus program that Barack pushed. Not one of them. Yet now that the money is out there and making a difference these lemmings are scurrying around taking credit for what they opposed.

The politics of climate change are difficult in the Senate, it's often said, because it's a regional issue: coal state senators are afraid their economies will be driven under if the price of dirty energy rises too quickly.

Isn't this sweet?

Look at the distribution of the states that will be hardest hit (if they haven't been already) by the onslaught of climate change (a.k.a. global warming). Do you notice a pattern?

Most of the states to be hit hard are "red" states even without climate change. States like Texas currently governed by a climate change naysayer governor who wants his country to leave the United States - except when there is an economic emergency and he can't get money from Washington fast enough.

Look at Oklahoma - home to well-known climate change naysayer Senator Jim Inhofe, one of two morally reprehensible Senators from the Sooner State and quite possibly the biggest asshole in the Senate. The "Christians" from Kansas represented by jackals like Pat Roberts (R) and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins (R) will be hit the hardest of all states by the ravages of climate change. Instead of taking a leadership role to stave off the effects of this environmental menace the "christian" members of Congress from Kansas are more interested in thwarting all attempts at governing the nation and would prefer instead to see the nation fail so they can win another election.

The ridiculousness of opposition to climate change is not restricted just to pious Repignicans however. Senator Ben Nelson who claims to be a Democrat while taking zillions of dollars from the health care industry to oppose health care reform, also opposes attempts to subdue climate change. The last time I saw Nelson in person was in Washington National airport. I approached him, used my real name, told him my old address in Grand Island and then asked "So, how is the surge in Iraq coming along?" That month more than 120 American kids died for no reason in Iraq. Nelson smiled and said "we're making great progress in Iraq." I responded saying "Tell that to the families of the 120 kids who died there this month you asshole." Nelson lost all color from his face and beat a hasty retreat from me. He does the same thing with climate change legislation.

It is so unfortunate that the radical wing of the Repignofascist Party has taken over the mainstream thought for the rest of them. Hyenas like Rush Limbaugh and other reichwing blow hards have so thoroughly confused the public on climate change and other policy issues that these fools follow them like sheep to the slaughter and believe everything they say.

Rush Limbaugh is no climate scientist. Jim Inhofe is no climate scientist. Now deceased author Michael Crichton is no climate scientist. Yet what they say is taken as gospel while what actual climate scientists say is dismissed as so much liberal bullshit.

Well, jerkoffs on the reichwing, your time will come. Unfortunately by the time the worst parts of climate change have kicked in we will all be taking it in the shorts. What will the overly bloated farmers in Kansas do when there are no funds in the Treasury to pay their disaster payments? What will the school children of fishermen of Oklahoma say when their rivers have dried up and there are no catfish? What about in Nebraska when the Ogallala Aquifer is dried up? What will Ben Nelson say?

Rather than address the issue and stave off a crisis the Repignofascists will likely blame it all on Bill Clinton. Some help that will be.

California Congressman Salutes Admitted Right-Wing Terrorist

Republican Congressman Wally Herger held a health care town hall meeting Aug. 18 at Simpson University in Redding, where a partisan crowd of over 2,000 people loudly cheered Herger’s position that a public option was “unacceptable.”
Although Herger called several times for the audience to “respect each other’s opinions,” those opposed to president Obama’s health care were greeted with cheers while the few in favor were interrupted with catcalls.

Herger did not hold back on his opinion of the health care plan and the administration’s appointment of “czars” to head various departments and task forces.
“Our democracy has never been threatened as much as it is today,” Herger said to a loud standing ovation.

Although repulsive enough, when you read the story further you learn that one of his constituents bellowed out "I am a right wing terrorist."

To this the Congressman identified this self-admitted terrorist as ..."a great American."

I thought the United States was at war with terrorism? I thought the Bush Abomination had identified nations that are "for us or against us." We can no longer walk into an airport with out being a suspected terrorist. The Bush Abomination rescinded all sorts of our rights in the name of fighting terrorists and terrorism. Yet this foolish anti-American Congressman, a person who took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, applauds and lauds a self-admitted Republican terrorist.

In the Bush days people were arrested by local authorities for showing up at meetings simply wearing an anti-Bush tee shirt. Yet here in northern California we have a terrorist being applauded by someone elected to represent the citizenry, and nothing happens to either of them.

As one of the talking heads (I forget who) recently said, just what exactly has changed in the lives of these people since January 20th that has brought about this outrage? Iraq and Afghanistan are still going on; the bailouts started by Bush are being continued to a certain degree; jobs are still being lost, but at a slower pace; aside from the stimulus, not much new in legislation; pretty much same shit different year. So how is their democracy being threatened when?

About the only thing that has changed is the color of the President's skin.

Congressman Franks (R-AZ) Latest Republican to Lose His Mind

Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., has decided that while President Obama's eligibility to occupy the Oval Office may not be subject to an immediate court challenge, if the president runs for a second term, he should be required to prove he is qualified.

Today on the Arizona desert the latest in a growing list of anti-American members of Congress decided to sign on to a ridiculous bill that would require future President's to show proof of citizenship before they are allowed to run for the office.

We have huge unemployment in this country. We have an economic meltdown. We are fighting two intractable wars in the Middle East. Oil prices continue to climb. And all these supercilious twits can think about is a non-issue like producing a birth certificate? Amazing.

Anyone with half the IQ that evolution gave to a sea cucumber can go online and find a copy of Barack's birth certificate. Anyone who is capable of reading has seen the endless certifications of the Hawaii Secretary of State that Barack was born in Honolulu in August 1961.
Despite that evidence and despite this announcement in the Honolulu Advertiser the day after Barack's birth these idiots continue to whine and scream and moan about a non-issue.

A blind person could see this yet the hyenas from the Reichwing once again blithely refuse to let facts intrude on their sense of reality.

There is a conveniently forgotten piece of Federal legislation called the Naturalization Act of 1790 (1 Stat 103) that among other things contains this forgotten fact: The Act also establishes the United States citizenship of children of citizens, born abroad, without the need for naturalization, "the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens".

Thus even if Barack Obama had been fathered by an African Lion on the plains of Kenya, and then been born in a mud hut in Uganda, the fact that his mom was a United States citizen makes Barack a United States citizen. End of story.

Still these repulsive bastards will continue to reject reality and live in their own little bubble - a concept perfected by George Dubya Bush during his excruciatingly long 8 year administration.
